Bailout Bull Sh!t.

I'm sorry, this is a family blog, but I'm about to scream my head off.

I do not claim to be an economist, a political analyst, or even somewhat "in the know" when it comes to the economy. I'm a stay at home mom, who cuts coupons, and shops the bargain aisles for clothes. I'm wearing the same winter coat I got my freshman year of college.

So. When I see a headline about Obama's new 800 Billion dollar mega bailout, after I already opposed BUSH's 750 Billion bailout, I want to start throwing things. The first bailout was supposedly to help the mortgage companies, and banks, and blah blah blah. Well, my home's value has dropped 25% in the last freaking year. What have I done? Paid my stupid mortgage on time, EVEN WHEN UNEMPLOYED. Where the heck is my bailout??? I talked to the mortgage company this was their offer - we could refinance your mortgage to a fixed rate of 6.0 for a small fee, blah blah blah.

SO then our realtor tells us what HE thinks we can get for our house, wait let me go vomit in a trash can, yeah not the best news. He suggests a short sale. Josh and I have considered this, looked into it as a possibility. Basically the lender "forgives" part of your mortgage. Great deal, except we need to show financial distress like not pay our mortgage for awhile. Isn't that a bit deceitful to not pay it even if you CAN afford it??

I mean who is screwed here. To me it sounds like the consumer who pays their bills on time, who happens to be in a TWENTY EIGHT percent tax bracket, who just wants to live in the same town as her disabled veteran husband.

Excuse me for being a bit frustrated with Obama's proposed spending plans. I hated Bush's plans, too. Throwing money at problems DOESN'T SOLVE THEM. ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU DON"T HAVE THE MONEY TO SPEND.

Josh and I recently looked at a home in a short sale situation in Charlottesville. We counted not one, not two, not three, but FOUR plasma screen t.v.'s, not to mention the latest washer and dryer on the market. I mean seriously??

Can someone tell me what happened to the America, I knew? Where dreams can come true, if you just work hard enough? Where is the integrity in this world?

I can't stand it that Americans are willing to just believe in "hope". We have real problems. And it starts in the home, not in the White House. Get a clue, Obama. More money, More problems. Stop the spending madness, it didn't help the first time, why in the world do you think it would help a second time?

If you read this far, you really do love me, and thanks for listening to a crabby 8 month prego mom, who happens to be a little stressed. I'm off to do Fit Mama (salsa dancing)

By the way, if you're looking for a home to buy, I know a great one that you could get for a steal.

Cheers, to livin' the American Dream!

I feel the exact same way. We pay our bills and do the right thing. A lady got evicted down the street 4 months ago, and never came and got her stuff. So, the owners finally went to court and cleaned their house out, as the law states they could. In the house, the one she couldn't pay for by renting, were five flatscreens, three computers, sewing machines/serger's up the yen yang. It's that mentality that upsets me when i do the right thing. I don't buy things i can't afford. I don't need everything now. Trust me, you aren't the only one who is upset by this.

I agree too Lucy. I totally agree. It makes me just as mad and I hate to even think about it. You know, people over spend on everything. Then, as you say it, those of us who are trying hard to do the right thing end up getting hurt in the end. I don't feel like the government should be able to use our money without our permission to bailout these companies who couldn't control their own spending, so they ask the government to go into debt for them so they can turn around and over spend the money again. You know, this might make you even more mad, and I don't know that it's true or not, but I heard on the radio today that the porno industry is now asking for a bailout. What the heck is all of that about?!

I heard this and just shook my head. What a crock. We Americans are REALLY proud of this??? You've got to be kidding me! Strengthen the family. Get to the ROOT of the problem. There are ENTIRE countries that are suffering right now bc Russia cut off the natural gas supply to Ukraine which is the holding tank and all the gas that other countries get from Russia goes through Ukraine. So MILLIONS of people are suffering and have no heat in the coldest winter they have had in years and Obama wants to bail out companies that have made poor judgments?? Some of the Romanian orphanages don't have heat and we are worried about a bailout. . . Amen Lucy. Amen.

I think my blood pressure just went up. Nothing pisses me off more than throwing money and more money at a bad idea.
On a lighter note, you've gotta watch this:

I read it all, so I must love you!! :)

I watched Oprah today and totally want that book...but not on the computer. I need a hands on version.

Maren, I'd love a hard copy too, but now I'm broke! :) LOL

Kim, the PORN industry, is requesting a bailout, it's true.

And that's why I go to the library! Why fork over precious $$ when you can get it for free at the library? I can't seem to get my MIL to understand that concept...ohhhh, the money she has spent on books. It makes me ill!

I'm totally disgusted by this. I screamed at the tv when hearing that the only way to get your mortgage rates fixed was by not paying your mortgage. That's ridiculous! There should be a plan for the people who ACTUALLY pay their bills. We can't have everything we want but people still spend like they can!

And yes, again more screaming for the tv when I heard about the "porn bailout." It's despicable.

Wait...there is a porn bailout...and people think this is a bad idea?

What a great post! We Americans have lost our way! Bigger SUV's, 5 TV's, and don't get me started on the size of some homes I have seen.
The government will spend and spend our taxes. In the end our kids will be left to pay the debt. The same kids that are being raised in a *give me I expect it* society! Scary that is for sure!

Ok, Lucy, you don't know me... yet, but I'e been ready your blog for a little while now. My name is Miranda (used to be Cook) Marrott and I grew up going to the Muncie 2nd ward with the Heath's. My hubby is in the Air Force, so I like reading about all your military stuff and really, I just think you are one smart girly (that is if it doesn't bother you to be called a girly).

Anyway, loved the post and couldn't agree more. I did hear to day though that the porn industry's request for bail out was not made so much for an actual bail out as it was made to make a statement against bailouts. From what I heard they are trying to get congress to see the floodgate they have opened by giving the first bailout. While I couldn't support the porn industry if they were actually requesting a bailout (or any other time either), if this is their intent then they do have a point.

Anyway, love your blog. Josh got a good woman, lucky man!

Take care, Miranda

Miranda, so sweet of you to read my writings, and then to keep reading them. :)

I will have to ask Josh about you, surely we've met before?? I went to BSU for 3 and a half years, you'd think we would have run into each other at some point!

Lucy you are so right girl. I feel like screaming at Obama too. I get angry though because I studied economics for a while in college and what he's proposing is backwards from what needs to be done in order to really help the economy. I didn't like the Bush cuts- I like the Obama plan even less (if possible). So many of the things that Obama has said is unconstitutional to implement. What happened to that core of America? So know you are not the only one frustrated... I hope you can sell your house soon.

To quote a cheesy church video "you knew what I was when you picked me up"
Lucy, Take comfort in the fact that even before the inauguration, we all get to say "I told ya so"!
Funny though, for someone who preaches "Change" he is already repeating the mistakes of the current administration.
