POLL - Tell me what you think of this.

I won't name names, but I recently called a friend's cell phone, and talked to her child while she was in the store... ever so briefly. I confess. I do it, too. Is there an age when this is o.k.? I could seriously be on trial. Should this woman be hung out to dry or what?? I've so done worse. Let's get the debate going!

She was in the store while her kid was in the car?

The "what if" is too much for me. I always tell myself it'll be okay for a second, but then the "what if" pops into my head. I'd never forgive myself if something happened that one time.

I've run into the house to grab something while Ainsley is in the car. It's no big, but I have been afraid someone would see me. I certainly don't suggest anyone go to jail for that kind of behavior.

In this case, I don't think the mother put her child in harm's way. The alarm was on, door's locked, she was able to see the car, etc. I have buckled Kaden in the van and then walked to the nearest cart return to put the cart back without him. Makes me think twice about doing that again!

I think there is an age when this is ok, but I dont know what age that is. Old enough to be out of a booster/car seat, but you know better than to unbuckle and try to drive the car or unlock it for a stranger?? I left my thoughts on the article in your post over at PP. But briefly, I think the police were out of line. big time.

Probably not the best idea. Because it is a pretty crazy world. But I have left my little ones buckled in their seats with the car locked and alarm on to run Gabby into school. I of coarse panic the entire time and run both ways. I will be gone maybe two minutes TOP but I do worry. Just didn't want to wake the sleeping ones. You just take a gamble every time. You have to weigh your options and be very intuned to the spirit. I am not giving any suggestions either way. Again, not a good idea. BUT I can not lie and say I have never done it.

So I am so guilty of this!!! I only leave the kids in the car when my 8 year old is in there but I know he is still too young. As a practially single mom I can only do so much so if it's a quick trip I run in. I think that the situation with this mom was not handled well and the officer definetly over reacted...and jail no way she is obviously a good mom...Hello! she was teaching her children to donate money to the less fortunate, that should say enough about her personality!

Oh brother. My parents used to throw me in the back seat without a seatbelt and I was left to my own outside for hours (EVERYONE DID) and now this? Brother. There are worse people to lock in jail FOR SURE! Go find the pedifiles, go INTO the store and get the shoplifters, go arrest the wife abusers and true child abusers. I think they are wasting the court's time.

Its probably not the *best* thing to do ever, but IMHO this is overkill. Parents are giving crack to their babies to 'soothe' them, but lets punish this woman who possibly wasn't out of sight of her child. Seems like someone had a bad day and wanted to take it out on someone, and now they're trying to make this woman an example. Way to prioritize.

My opinion, probably an officer who had some bad PMS. When we were in CA (hot desert) we had to call, and i know i wasn't the only one, on a bunch of parents who left kids in the car to 'quickly' grab one or two items. Sorry, but you don't leave kids in a none running car in 120 degree weather. Were they arrested? No. I think this woman's case was completely blown out of proportion by the officer. Is it any different from parents that go to Chuckie Cheese, have their kids' hands stamped, then sit and don't make eye contact with their kids for the next two hours?

I wouldn't be able to leave my kids in the--the worrying just isn't worth it (that's not saying I haven't been very VERY tempted)

That poor woman though--that was a little extreme!

Way to get the discussion going Lucy!
